Oxalic Acid | Organic Varroa Treatment

We expect to begin stocking oxalic acid products in the near future - register your interest below.

Oxalic acid (OA) is naturally occurring in many plants, and it's even present in honey. OA kills phoretic mites (ie: those on adult bees, not inside brood cells). It can be used to maintain lower mite counts, though it won’t drastically reduce the number of mites in a hive like formic acid can.

Common ways to use oxalic acid include:

  • using a vaporiser (requires protective gear and special equipment);
  • dribbling liquid directly onto the bees;
  • placing strips/sponges soaked in OA in the brood box.

NB: In most jurisdictions, including Australia, only the vaporisation and dribble methods are officially approved at present.
